Since 2001, June 1 has been registered as the name of the World Milk Day. This day is named by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). World Milk Day is a platform for opportunities to attract attention to dairy products as part of a healthy diet and to support livelihoods and communities. According to the FAO, more than six billion people consume dairy products daily, which shows that the dairy sector saves the lives of billions of people. Today, more than 72 countries host more than 500 events for this day.
A great way to celebrate this day is to enjoy a glass or two of milk. This glass of milk can be cow’s, goat’s, camel’s, or even buffalo’s milk because their benefits are the same. If you don’t want to drink plain milk, you can make ice cream, smoothies, cakes, coffee, porridge and more. Milk contains eighteen of twenty-one nutrients that the body needs daily. These nutrients regenerate energy in our body and help to reducing fatigue and boosting the immune system. Milk also contains calcium, which promotes the growth of bones and teeth. Other elements in milk include iodine, phosphorus, potassium, selenium and proteins. In addition, milk is a natural source of vitamins B1, B2, B5, B6, B12, E and K.
One cup of cow’s milk (240 ml) with 3.25% fat contains the following:
149 kcal
88% water
7.7 grams of protein
11.7 grams of carbohydrates
12.3 grams of sugar
Unfortunately, in Iran, per capita milk consumption has decreased in recent years for various reasons and has deviated from international standards, and this can lead to the spread of diseases such as hypertension, osteoporosis, and cancer. Also, reducing milk consumption will lead to the short stature of the new generation. Whereas; in the past few years, India has become the world’s largest milk producer with more than 150 million tones and more than 300 grams per day. It is hoped that the Iranian society will ensure its health by consuming sufficient milk a variety of dairy products by strengthening the body’s immune system in to prevent and struggle with the Corona Virus.
