This method, called milk fraction or separation,

was introduced by AFI Foods, a supplier of specialized milk and whey ingredients, with the help of a partner dairy company.
AFI has said that next-generation dairy products, through the selection of specific pure milk proteins, for example, casein and serum whey proteins will be possible.
The development of specialized nutrient-specific foods opens up new opportunities for infant formula, sports products, and nutrition for the elderly and those with medical nutrition needs, the statement said.
The separation of milk’s different proteins from whey relies on the cheese-making process because whey is a by-product of this process. Using the new milk separation technology mentioned above, not only we have access to a potential pool of raw materials but also creates protein streams in a fully-controlled process by reducing the milk processing steps.
The CEO of Arla Foods Ingredients, Henrik Andersen, said: “This approach has been developing for several years, and now I’m happy that what was once a dream, has now become a commercial reality and had the power to revolutionize targeted nutrition for vulnerable groups. As science-based innovators, we are driving our innovation process to ensure we have the best products available and continue to lead the way in whey.”
The milk fractionation process is being pioneered for infant formula at AFI’s dairy in Videbeak, Denmark to fulfill a growing demand for organic infant formula, a market that according to Marketreportsworld.com, is likely to increase by 14.1% in the next two years.
“Significant quantities of organic milk are required for traditional cheese making to produce the needed volume of whey in order to meet demand and now we’re not dependent on it anymore, we can significantly increase production and at the same time, provide parents more documentation of the organic infant formula. “Andersen said.
Arla Foods Ingredients is currently using the new technology to manufacture the organic Baby&Me brand and is expected to launch its first organic private label infant formula solutions based on the technology in 2022.
