World Milk Day, celebrated annually on June 1, was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 2001 to recognize the importance of milk as a global food and to celebrate the dairy sector. Since then, every year, the benefits of milk and dairy products have been actively promoted around the world. This year’s theme focuses on the vital role of dairy in providing essential and quality nutrients globally. By promoting responsible dairy production and consumption, World Milk Day moves people and the planet towards a healthy future.
Since the consumption of milk plays a very important role in maintaining the overall health, especially of children, the purpose of this day is to raise awareness about the importance of dairy consumption, and as a result, improve the growth of children and prevention of an enormous burden that osteoporosis and dental health place on society and health systems. Therefore, it is important to dispel any misunderstandings about dairy and recognize its nutritional value.
Unfortunately, milk and dairy consumption in Iran has decreased to less than half of the global per capita. It is hoped that with the improvement of the economic condition in Iran, dairy consumption will increase so that everyone can benefit from its nutritional advantages.
The dairy industry is moving forward in caring for the environment and reducing its environmental impact, which is very promising. By implementing sustainable practices and reducing carbon emissions, dairy industry is actively working to decrease its carbon footprint. Particularly in Iran, dairy producers are employing modern technologies and optimizing resource management to reduce water and energy consumption. These efforts not only help preserve the environment but also improve the quality of dairy products and enhance the industry’s sustainability. Supporting these changes can help create a more sustainable and healthier future for all of us.
